About us

Anna Broks was born in Toronto to Latvian parents.

At 6 years old, she joined the Latvian children’s quartet “Ausma,” led by pianist Peteris (Pete) Zarins. The group often performed at Caravan (a multicultural festival held in Toronto) throughout the 1970s.

On stage at the Riga Pavilion, Anna first discovered her love for singing and storytelling, and she knew she was destined for a life on stage. Pete Zarins has since been Anna’s mentor and accompanist for over 5 decades.

In her early teens, Anna studied music with well-known cellist Juris (George) Kenins.

In the last 3 years, musical duo Anna & Pete have leaned into Anna’s cultural roots, specializing in Latvian music to bring diverse and engaging performances to the GTHA Latvian community. They are often joined by Juris Kenins’s wonderful cello accompaniments.

They have played shows at the Toronto Latvian Cultural Centre, Kristus Darzs Latvian Home, and Sidrabene Latvian Recreation and Retreat Centre.

As a trio, Anna, Pete & Juris put their own spin on a variety of Latvian music, from traditional folk songs to contemporary pop hits.
